Art and Archaeology@WAC-8

A fundamental policy of the World Archaeology Congress is that all people with interests in the past, anywhere in the world, are welcome to join. Archaeology roles in history, present society, and politics. Archaeological practice must be open to modern society, and to those who are not archaeologists. Archaeologists should be actively engaged with society generally. To allow more people to become engaged with archaeology, we have to challenge the habits and ingrained values of archaeological practice.

Art and Archaeology, with its collaboration of artists and archaeologists, reflects this goal of expanding the diversity of people who can enjoy the past and benefit from archaeology. WAC-8 Kyoto is encouraging the goal of engagement with society by adopting the Art and Archaeology Theme (T14) and related public events as one of the 16 important themes of the 2016 Congress.
The extraordinary encounter of Art and Archaeology is changing the management of cultural heritage in creative and attractive ways. This movement to link Art and Archaeology has spread across the world. What works can be created, and what ways of enjoyment can be discovered?
A picture is worth a hundred words, and one action is worth a hundred thoughts. The Art and Archaeology movement is not just for listening and thinking. It asks participants to join with action and feeling.
