Access to Kyoto and Venue

 

Kansai International Airport (KIX) is the main international gateway to Kyoto and is strongly recommended. You can reach Kyoto via (1) KIX, (2) Tokyo Narita International Airport, (3) Tokyo Haneda International Airport or (4) Chubu Centrair International Airport near Nagoya, as follows:

(1) Kansai International Airport (KIX) to Kyoto
By train. The JR (Japan Railway) Limited Express Train “Haruka”, runs once every 30-60 minutes direct from the ariport to JR Kyoto Stn (final stop), the main transport center of Kyoto. Travel time and cost approx. 75mins / 2,850yen.
By bus. Express Buses called “Airport Limousines” leave from KIX at ground level outside the terminal building, and go to JR Kyoto Stn (final stop). Tickets are available from machines or counter next to the bus stop area. Travel time and cost approx. 90 mins / 2,550 yen.
By taxi. By taxi. A taxi from KIX to JR Kyoto Station takes about 120 mins and is expensive (see contact info and fares here)

(2) Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) to Kyoto
By air. Domestic air flights operate from Narita to Osaka International Airport (ITM) (also known as Itami airport). From ITM, take an airport limousine bus to the JR Kyoto Stn. Travel time and cost approx. 55 mins / 1,310 yen.
By train. Via the JR Tokyo Stn. Board the JR Limited Express Train “Airport Narita” to JR Tokyo Stn., then take the JR Shinkansen (bullet train) “Nozomi” (fastest service) to JR Kyoto Stn. Shinkansen trains run once in every 15 minutes; tickets for the whole route can be bought at NRT airport. Total travel time and cost approx. 3hrs 30mins / 14,160 yen+ Ask for a reserved seat ticket to avoid standing. “Jiyuseki” tickets are for unreserved seats; if these are fill, passengers must stand during the journey.

(3) Tokyo Haneda International Airport (HND) to Kyoto
By train. Take the Tokyo Monorail train to Hamamatsucho Stn, then a JR train to JR Shinagawa Sta. From there, take a JR Shinkansen to JR Kyoto Stn. Total travel time and cost: approx. 3hrs / 13,563 yen

(4) Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO) to Kyoto
By train: Take the Meitetsu Limited Express Train “μSky ” to Nagoya Stn, then board JR Shinkansen to JR Kyoto Stn. Total travel time and cost approx. 1hr 20mins / 6,300 yen~

Note: Long distance buses or slower regional train services can be used between all large cities across Japan, and can be used for cheaper travel if you have time.

Access to Venue

The main venue, Imadegawa Campus is a five-minute walk from Imadegawa Stn.
To reach this station, use the Karasuma Line of Kyoto Subway from JR Kyoto Stn (five stops; ten minutes).  [ Click here to see Kyoto Subway map (PDF 287KB)] Taxi can also be used from JR Kyoto Stn (approx. cost 1,500 yen).
