 Events

This venue includes a wooden river terrace and adjacent gallery. The Takasegawa Canal was constructed in the 18th C. (Edo period) to provide safe water transport along the side of the Kamo River which flows through the center of Kyoto City. Despite its central location, the tree-lined Canal and its built landscape are a peaceful haven for birds and people alike. A popular summer tradition of Kyoto is to relax on temporary wooden terraces placed over the cool running water of a stream. Local craftsmen have built a river terrace linking the Canal and adjacent Takasegawa Four Seasons Gallery located in an old Kyoto town house (machiya).
